Weight Loss: Our Program
This program is designed as both a lifestyle change and a safe method of losing weight. Remember, it took, in many cases, quite a few years to gain the unwanted weight, so you can’t expect to lose it overnight.
With aging come metabolism changes that cause less calories to be burned, and this combined with a reduction of exercise, the eating of more fast-foods, skipping meals, being dehydrated, not eating enough fibre, being clogged with toxins and pollutants creates a recipe for weight gain and poor health.
This is a weight-loss program that depends on you- but I will help you to stick to it!!
You will be required to return for weekly weigh-ins, diet checks via a diet diary and , if you wish, occasional checks of urine to see if you are burning fat (ketones in urine show this) and eating what you SHOULD BE.
The first two weeks:
You WILL be doing a detox program
You WILL cut out all fast foods, preprocessed, high glycemic foods (explained later)
You WILL begin to look at food in a different way. More on this later but food is not for COMFORT and to ease depressing feelings, it is for your HEALTH and should be carefully chosen to give you perfect health and long life.
YOU MUST reduce your portion size…. eat for the new you…. the lighter, svelt and slimmer you that you wish to be. The only proven aid to increasing length of life in animals or humans is REDUCTION OF CALORIES TAKEN IN!!
You MUST realize that exercise is VITAL to good health and keeping fit is a necessary part of life… even if its just walking. Sir Bertrand Russell lived to be almost 100 and WALKED for 2 hours per day… every day. It became PART OF HIS ROUTINE.
You WILL understand that what you allow into your body controls the health of your body. You are the GATEKEEPER, and what you eat affects your OUTLOOK, your BLOOD CHEMISTRY (ie. the amount of cholesterol and triglycerides which eventually cause inflammations and blocked arteries, the ACIDITY of your system which hastens DISEASE) as well as your ENERGY LEVEL and last, but not least YOUR WEIGHT.
You MUST increase your liquids up to the 8 x 8 oz glasses per day (Overweight people need MORE) to properly flush and signal the body to let go of the extra water it has.
The first two weeks, as well as being a time of DETOXIFICATION, are a time to get your body out of its old RUT of CRAVINGS and FIXES…….now let’s start on the road to HEALTH, ENERGY and EATING RIGHT!
We do, however, have some kick-start suggestions to start the weight-loss process a little faster so you won’t throw up your hands in frustration and say something like “Well, I might as well just eat what I want- this isn’t working anyway!”
The principles outlined in our manual, faithfully applied WILL definitely show results, both in weight loss and in general overall health and well-being. Those who lack energy, feel tired easily, feel headachy, foggy-brained, have painful joints, and get sick often will all find that this diet helps relieve some of their symptoms.
The trouble with our society over the last 30-40 years is that we are hurried, fast-fooded, and sweetened to the point where we get lots to eat but are filling up with empty calories with no nutrients. Considering all the nutritional knowledge that’s available and the portion of most people’s income available for buying food, the present diet of most people is inexcusable.
When a food is satisfying, tastes really good and is readily available from you local fast-food supplier it generally has too much fat or too much sugar or both! Society has forced upon us their NORMS: ie. caffeine rich coffee (make that a double-double), buttered bagels, toast with peanut butter and jam, cream-filled doughnuts, chocolate delights; pop, both diet, regular; pizza pops and pop tarts; French fries with poutine or gravy or ketchup; decadent cookies; salty snack foods, condiment layered hot dogs and hamburgs, crackers, fried fish and chicken, white breads that build our bodies 8 ways, boxed sweet cereals, 3-cheeze pizza with fatty meat. etc., etc It’s enough to make you gain weight just thinking about this stuff!. Its time to change your ways!
Doing a 3 or 4 system detox (bowels, skin, liver and kidneys) once or twice a year will help clean out those built-up toxins and stored products that interfere with proper nutrient uptake. You will require less food for your nutrition and harmful substances that are either ingested or produced as waste byproducts will be eliminated more efficiently.
Increasing the amount of protein with each meal gives the body substantial nourishment for longer periods of time resulting in less appetite. Eating more often and regularly means you aren’t sitting down to eat with a huge appetite you’ve been waiting all day to satisfy! Water and fibre cut hunger pangs and provide better toxin elimination on a cellular level and through the skin, bowels and kidneys.
Taking a hard look at the section “Glycemic Index of Foods” will clue you in to the types of foods that are the worst and best for the maintenance of a healthy weight and for nutritional value. The highest glycemic foods turn to sugar in the body the quickest and that section will explain why they should be avoided.
